Sunday Funday

Boy, did we have a blast today at Simba Ranch. It was my first snow day here at the Ranch and I was super excited to be hanging out in the cold and snow. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one! Once I let out the pups we took a trek out to the back property. The dogs were going nuts for the fresh powder and thats when I knew it was going to be a fun filled day. After rolling around in the snow for an hour or so it was time to make trails. The woods surrounding camp were like something out of a painting. The foggy mist with all the fresh snow made for a surreal experience. All the pups and I were happy to have our paws to leave the first imprints throughout the woods.

Later back at the ranch we had two more pups Harry and Rose join us bringing the total to 16 dogs. They got acclimated quickly and began frolicking with the rest of the pack.

Everyone is back in the barn warming up now and resting up for the afternoon. To think this is just the first snow, I can’t wait for more!

Til next time,

Peter

Happy Birthday Shasta on our first snow of the season!

Shasta Lawson on her birthday, October 11, 2008

Happy 1 year Birthday Shasta! It is about 9pm in the evening on Saturday and we are all inside, snuggling together warmly. The birthday girl is surrounded by her three friends, Brandy, Abby and Jesse while over by the sofa and on the other beds sleeping are Ranger, Ralph, Smokey and Sushi. I would have taken more pictures but our technology was slow and I am getting ready to call it a night.

Thank you to these pups for such an enjoyable afternoon. The younger pups played ALOT today - Brandy, Abby, Gus, Jesse and Shasta. Many of the older pups were more into being inside as the temperature began to drop a bit. It has been snowing on and off today.

Cowboy and Nugget are the two active huskies. We have been practicing boundaries using the tenderfoot techniques. They are both really good once they settle in and it helps them to calm down and focus. Our older dog, Kia, is just a joy to have around even when she is spending alot of time lounging - what else do you do when you are a 15 year old dog?

Blessings to all and to all a good night, Michele

Simba Supports Our Own

patrick-walking-dogs.jpgOne of Simba Ranch’s longest-standing employees, Patrick Bergman, made the move from Nederland to Boulder recently. While he still joins us once a week for his regular shift, he has been forced to find additional employment closer to home in order to stay afloat. “My initial thought was to try to find a similar job with a boarding facility or pet-sitting service in Boulder,” he says, “but after looking around for a couple of weeks, I came to the realization that no one cares about their clients or their employees as much as Michele does. I was spoiled by Simba Ranch, and I can’t work for someone who justs looks at dogs and employees in terms of dollars and cents.”

The only solution that Patrick could think of was to start his own business inspired by the Simba Ranch experience, and so, the Take a Hike! dog walking service was born. Take a Hike! specializes in park walks and trail hikes in the Boulder area, and although it’s not meant to be a substitute, it’s a great way for your dog to get a little extra exercise and mental stimulation in between visits to the ranch.  We at Simba Ranch are proud to support Patrick in his new endeavor and wish him all the best in the future!

Frigid Fall Friday

mr-riley.jpg

This is a very common look on the faces of Huskies and Samoyeds when the temperature begins to drop, and we’re starting to see it more and more at the Ranch. The trees are mostly bare here in Rollinsville, and even though it’s only mid-October, I think it’s safe to say that Old Man Winter is well on his way. Abby, Ralph, Brandy, Max, Jessie, Noelle, Ranger, Kia, Sushi, Cowboy, Nugget, Griffey, and Mr. Riley make up a very energetic pack this afternoon, and between breaks inside and vigorous play sessions outside, everyone is staying warm and toasty! - Patrick

Enjoying the Fall…

taking-a-break.jpg smokey-closeup.jpg charlotte-and-nitro.jpg

Today the trails were littered with leaves marking that autumn is upon us. We took a break to take in the vibrant colors, seems like were not the only ones. Lucy and Buster played chase while Smokey and Kia looked on. We also welcomed Nitro, the greyhound, into our pack for the first time. He was accompanied by his sister Charlotte, they settled in great. We hope to see them back soon! It is dinner time now and things are cooling off quickly, so it is time to sign off. Good Night!
